Sushi at home

Whoever wants to make sushi at home first of all needs some equipment and of course the right ingredients. But let me just say one thing first: To make sushi takes a lot of finesse and patience. Don’t give up too soon. The rice might stick on your fingers, trying to cut the alga rolls you’ll squeeze all the rice out of it and it might not look perfect when it’s ready but it’ll be the best sushi you’ve ever had because you’ve made it yourself. Just to be sure that you not get mad you should maybe make sushi with someone who can make sushi and for starters just give him or her a hand. But don’t worry. You’ll be alright.

Knife (Hocho)

For cutting all the ingredients and at the end the long sushi rolls, you need a very sharp knife. There are special sushi knifes that you can buy in some asia shops for example. But just for the start a simple sharp kitchen knife will do.

Cutting board

Just a normal breadboard from your kitchen on which you can prepare the sushi will do.

Bamboomat (Makisu)

You need this mat to roll the sushi and bring it to the right shape. I’d recommend to wrap some foil around it so that the rice won’t stick on the mat.
And don’t forget the chopsticks!
